One each of Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and Spirit incenses in 1/2 ounce corked vials, for those traditions which use the four Cardinal elements plus the ineffable element of Spirit. The Cardinal Element incenses each contain four ingredients, corresponding to the Four Directions, and Spirit contains five, corresponding to the top of the Pentacle and the unfurling of the Spiral.

The Air element is the principle of wind, speech, thought, ideas, and joy, and Air incense could be used to magickally evoke any of these powers.

Air Element blows through the Crescent Moon, and since the New Moon rises at dawn, Air incense is formulated in the morning during the New Moon. Air is expressed in both the planets Jupiter and Mercury, but I use the expansive Jovian influence, therefore Air incense is made on Thursdays. Air Element is corresponded to Yellow or Clear/White, easy to achieve in the Air incense with the light, colorless resins and herbs affined to Air. When I make Air incense I face the East and the rising Sun.

The Fire element is the principle of heat, passion, activity, work, and desire, and Fire incense could be used to magickally evoke any of these powers.

Fire Element charges the Second Quarter of the Moon, since the waxing half Moon is seen rising at noon. Fire incense is therefore concocted at midday. Fire Element burns with the nature of Sun and Mars and I make Fire incense on Sunday. Fire Element is colored Orange and Red, and Dragon’s Blood resin gives both my Fire incense a burning red/orange color. When I make Fire incense I face the South and the midday Sun.

The Water element is the principle of emotions, psychism, compassion, healing, and dreams, and Water incense could be used to magickally evoke any of these powers.

Water Element flows down from the Full Moon, and since the Full Moon rises at sunset, Water incense is potioned at the end of the day. Water Element reflects the nature of Moon and Venus. I make Water incense on Monday. Water Element is naturally associated with the color Blue and my Water attempts to be yellowish-green, because honestly there just are not many natural products that would make a blue incense. When I make Water incense I face the West and the setting Sun.

The Earth element is the principle of physicality, wealth, growth, mysteries, and secrets, and Earth incense could be used to magickally evoke any of these powers.

Earth Element weighs in on the Third quarter Moon, which rises at midnight. Earth incense is compounded around midnight. Earth Element resides most in the nature of Saturn. Earth incense is made on Saturday. Earth partakes of the colors Brown, Black, and Green. Earth incense ingredients make it brown Like good dirt. When I make Earth incense I face the North and the obscured Sun.

The Spirit element is the principle of connection, magick, change, transformation, and Spirit incense could be used to magickally evoke any of these powers.

Spirit envelopes all phases of the Moon, and is integrated on the Dark Moon/ New Moon.
Spirit infuses all of the Planets, but Mercury carries its message best of all. Spirit incense is made on Wednesday. Spirit is alternatively imagined to be: White, Black, Grey, or Purple. Spirit oil is given Grey color by its ingredients. For the potioning of Spirit incense, I will necessarily change directions as each Element is integrated into the incense. Spirit contains an ingredient from each of the Four Cardinal Elements, plus one that can only be given to Spirit.

Natural Magick incenses are composed of high quality resins, herbs, and sometimes essential oils. They are ritually hand ground on appropriate days of the week for Planetary influences and on the best day of the Moon's cycle for Lunar powers. Unlike most powder incenses, I use no "base" or filler to alter or dilute the powers of the active ingredients.

These magick incenses are made to be burned on incense charcoals. Light the charcoal with match or lighter, set it in a flameproof incense burner or on a brick, rock or bowl of sand, pebbles, or salt. Allow the charcoal to light completely and then sprinkle on a pinch the incense. Add more pinches as desired. See below for more detailed instructions.

How to burn incense & resins:

Natural Magick Shop incenses are ground in a mortar from resins, woods, herbs and spices. They have nothing in them which burns on its own, hence the need for a self-burning charcoal.

First you need something safe to burn your incense in. The charcoals used to burn resins get very hot. Use a burner made for resin incense, with a metal screen, a cast iron cauldron, or you can use a glass or ceramic bowl IF you put a layer of sand, marbles, aquarium pebbles or rocks to insulate glass or ceramic from the heat of the charcoal.

I often break the charcoals in half because they burn for nearly an hour. Light the charcoal with a lighter or match, and when it starts to spark, put it in the burner.

It is best to let the whole charcoal begin to glow before adding any incense. Then sprinkle on the incense as desired, a little bit at a time. If you add too much or cover the charcoal completely, you might put out the charcoal. Also, most natural resin incenses smell better when burned in small amounts at a time.

Keep away from kids and pets. Let the charcoal burn down completely, and make sure it's all ash before throwing out because it could set trash on fire. Advice from experience!

I don't clean the burner after every use. When there is a collection of ash in the burner, pour contents into strainer over the sink and rinse with water. Let dry, and put rocks back in burner. (If you use sand you'll just have to dump the whole mess and use fresh sand).

Store unused charcoal in a zip-lock bag or in a jar, because they won't burn well if they collect humidity from the air.

Enjoy!
